What Are Fire Resistant ACP Panels, And Why Do They Matter?

The vast majority of city buildings are constructed of concrete, steel, or wood. These structures, whether residential or commercial, must be exceptional in terms of safety and fitness to save human lives during times of physical distress. Fire is one such threat, claiming thousands of lives and causing billions of dollars in property damage each year in almost every country. 1. The Kamala Mills Tragedy as a Case Study

On December 28, 2017, a fire broke out in Mumbai's famous Kamala Mills compound. On the building floors, Kamala Mills housed restaurants and pubs, making it a popular nightlife destination. ACP panels have a high strength-to-weight ratio, because

1) aluminum is light in weight.

2) The fire retardant core material has a low mass density. ACP panels typically weigh close to 4 kg/meter square, which is ideal for reducing building efforts and maintenance.

4. How does a Fire-Resistant Aluminum Composite Panel work?

Because of the low thermal conductivity of FR aluminum composite panels, fire spread is negligible for up to 2 hours. FR-grade ACP sheets do not release excessive heat onto other materials that can cause a fire because they do not actively participate in combustion.


Fire-retardant ACP sheets, instead of melting into flaming droplets, transform into harmless dust particles. Furthermore, they do not come off the building when firefighters use a fire hose to douse it with water.
