How to Ensure Quality of Prepainted Aluminum Coil

The term prepainted aluminum coil refers to aluminum coils that have been surface processed and then coated with one or more layers of organic coatings such as polyester and fluorocarbon polyester before being baked and cured. PVDF and PE are the two most common types of acrylics.

Fluorocarbon (PVDF) coating aluminum coil has a longer service life than polyester (PE) coating aluminum coil. PVDF-coated aluminum coils typically have a service life of more than 20 years, whereas polyester-color-coated aluminum coils typically have a service life of about 10 years.

A fluorocarbon-color-coated aluminum coil is a product that coats the surface of the aluminum coil with high-quality fluorocarbon paint. Fluorocarbon paint is the first option for color-coated aluminum coils for outdoor products because it is more weather-resistant and has a longer service life.

The coil coating manufacturing method consists of five steps: coil intake, cleaning, chemical treatment, painting, curing, and finished product output. In each instance, the process layout and equipment composition is different, but the basic components are the same.

The quality of the pretreatment (cleaning and chemical coating) determines the quality of the coating and has a direct impact on the coating's flexibility and impact resistance. It affects the aluminum trim coil's coating adhesion.

The goal of initial coating, finishing coating, and curing is to cover the coating on the surface of the substrate and volatilize the organic solvent of the coating by heating it until the organic coating and the substrate are tightly combined. Coating and curing have a direct impact on the appearance quality, physical and chemical characteristics, and manufacturing control of color-coated aluminum coils.

Color variations in aluminum trim coils may occur during manufacturing and use. Because the color difference is affected by a variety of variables such as production batch, color depth, use time, use environment, and purpose, it is typically negotiated when ordering by both the supplier and the buyer.

The performance of the color-coated aluminum coil during use is evaluated by the length of service life. Factors affecting coating longevity include coating variety, coating thickness, and environmental corrosion. Coating variety, coating layer, and environmental corrosion are all factors to consider. Coatings' real durability can be determined through atmospheric exposure testing or artificial aging tests.
